Different goals

It is easy to be dismissive of others’ actions as nonsensical when we don’t understand them. What is harder is recognizing that sometimes the delta in understanding others is simply that we have different goals in life.

For some people, safety is an overarching goal. For others, adventure is the goal. Fame is a goal for many, while others desire to be as unseen as possible. People have a range of objectives in mind when they do, or don’t do, certain things.

Assuming that we understand the objectives of others, or even simply assuming that a particular objective is right or wrong, is near-sighted. What may be good for them isn’t good for you, but that doesn’t make it bad.

We all have different goals. Let’s keep that in mind.
