Hate speech

There is a big difference between “hate speech” and “speech you hate.” Hate speech is real and wrong, but it isn’t most of what happens in a professional, public setting. True hate speech would be career suicide for politicians, corporate executives, professional athletes or others in the public eye. If you think you are getting undertones of hate speech, make sure you aren’t mind reading and assuming you know what the person is thinking even if they aren’t saying it.

Would you hold a politician, entertainer or other celebrity that you support or admire to the same standard to which you are holding this person that you don’t like? Probably not.

Next time you think you are hearing hate speech, stop and make sure you aren’t the one being a hater.
