Humility contests
Today, I am going to have a humility contest with myself.
This is a mindset that I am trying to adopt and re-adopt each and every day. Humility is the ultimate trump card because it is the hardest thing for us to do as humans, but also has a disproportionately positive impact on our relationships and our lives. What would my world look like if I were to win my daily humility contest?
I’d be quick to apologize to my wife when I mess up because our marriage is more important than my feelings of pride.
I’d be slow to anger with my kids because I don’t have an ego getting in the way addressing them lovingly.
I’d forgive people that I don’t want to let off the hook because I no longer need answers or solutions or reasons.
I’d work harder and with more focus than ever before because there is still so much to learning and growing to do.
I’d slow down and soak in each moment because I’m not immortal and know that life is a dance, not a race.
For me, the second hardest thing in life for me is being wrong and having to admit it. The hardest thing in life is knowing that I’m right and having to let it go. What a heavy, but optional, burden to carry.
Humility is the antidote to both.
