Looking up
For the better part of 15 years, we have been looking down. Down at our phones and down at others. Addictive technologies are only half of the issue, as we’ve lost a sense of general decency toward one another that was treated as a foregone conclusion only a generation or two past. We worship screens at the expense of people.
It is amazing to think that not too long ago there was a day when having dinner with family or drinks with friends consisted of precisely zero distractions. When was the last time you gave your full attention to what you were doing, who you were with, the conversation in front of you? It’s been at least a week for me.
So look up. You never know how much the person you are with is waiting to be seen.
